The Web 2.0 service that ‘voice enables’ text-based Web content launched Talklets. The new service gives opportunities to the users to have text ‘read’ to them immediately in a range of natural voices, or converted to an MP3 file for consumption at another time, and on any compatible device.

The main advantage of the Talklets is that there is no need to download it. It is the software as a service (SaaS) model for TTS. All is needed is to insert a few lines of code into the web pages they wish to voice enable to create the necessary links to Textic’s server platform, later on the selected text is converted into a streaming audio file. User can hear the text read to them by one of a number of predefined voices which closely approximate natural speech. There is no obligation to listen to everything but user can opt to have the selected text converted to an MP3 file which is then downloaded and saved for later use or transferred to, for example, an iPod or mobile phone.

CEO Paul Ayres, launcher of Netscape and RealNetworks in the European market. Commented, “The obvious use of the Talklets service is to satisfy increasingly stringent accessibility requirements which are mandated in legislation around the world. However, stopping there ignores the significant revenue generating opportunities available. Something like 80% of the data consumed on the Web is text and it’s only available now if you’re in front of a readable screen or if it’s printed. Talklets is designed to extract that text and deliver it in a form that meets the increasing demand for anytime, anywhere, any device access to information.

“Website owners need to start thinking how they can use Talklets to extract maximum value from the text based assets they have invested in. The combination of the software as a service model and natural speech means that services can be delivered effortlessly and be completely brand specific. There’s no reason why we couldn’t have Murray Walker voicing motor racing sites, David Frost reading news portals or Kate Moss reading fashion tips. The initial indications we have from our trials suggest that making text more flexible and accessible offers considerable long term benefits by attracting new audiences, increasing engagement and extending user ‘stickiness’.”

Voices of the new service varies from male and female voices in major languages including English (UK & US), French, Dutch, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Polish, Greek and Welsh.

Interview is the art of communication, and presents one of the most interesting ways of getting information but it should be mentioned that the tools for interviews have increased and the greatest role is played by the technology alongside the skills that the interviewer should have.

Among the specific types of interviewers are interviewers with suspects and witnesses. Impact Marcom and Reliance High-Tech have launched V.A.D.E.R. for this purpose.

Reliance High-Tech, V.A.D.E.R. Client functions as a digital recorder with the suspect or witness interview and delivers removable digital discs in line with current PACE guidelines. The fact that it is coupled with V.A.D.E.R. Server, the interview is streamed and stored on a central secure database.

This technology gives opportunity materials to be retrieved by approved person and presented to the court. As far as using V.A.D.E.R. Server the retrieval of statements will be more efficient because of the feature like key word searching, and evidence can be identified within seconds from a comprehensive database of digital footage.

Julian Phillips, Managing Director of Impact Marcom said, “By applying proven technology from the broadcast industry, we are able to give the police force instant and secure access to their own video and audio content - in effect, their own secure content management tool.”

Adobe announced at its Q2 conference call that they already have a version of Flash working for the iPhone and running on emulation software.

`We have a version that’s working on the emulation. This is still on the computer and you know, we have to continue to move it from a test environment onto the device and continue to make it work. So we are pleased with the internal progress that we’ve made to date~ - Adobe's CEO Shantanu Narayen said.

But will Apple allow Flash for the iPhone? Steve Jobs has claimed in the past that the mobile version of Flash - presumably what Adobe would be porting over to the iPhone - isn’t powerful enough for use on the nimble and elegant iPhone.

The push to break away from Flash reliance indicates that Apple isn't keen on seeing iPhone Flash development succeed. That leaves Adobe all alone to tackle the iPhone Flash dilemma.

Ubisoft, an international developer, publisher and distributor of interactive entertainment products and game series such as Rainbow Six, Splinter Cell, Ghost Recon, and Prince of Persia, is also very interested in developing games for the iPhone and iPod Touch.

Pauline Jacquey, Executive Producer of Ubisoft’s “Games for Everyone” said: “We don't want to keep it too narrow. At the minute, we’re only showing DS and Wii games, but we’ll be working on all other platforms. We’ll be making games not only on PC, PS3 and 360, but on iPhone and iPod touch as well.”

Ubisoft Entertainment S.A, an educational software and video game publishing and distribution company, was created by the five Guillemot brothers, in 1986. Later, Ubisoft created distribution subsidiaries in key world markets: United Kingdom, Germany and the U.S.

The Ubisoft group quickly established its leadership on Microsoft’s Xbox 360™ video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, successfully launching four titles, including Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter™, and climbing to the top of the charts.

The ifbyphone released new iPhone application that will enable users to send recorded messages without using calling minutes.

The ifbyphone telephone application platform, which will be available July 1, will deliver broadcasts either immediately or at a scheduled time set by the user. It will work with any iPhone running the v2 software. In addition, the Voice Broadcast feature will also work with the iPod touch.

Applications for Ifbyphone's Voice Broadcast technology include traveling managers who need to send a voice memo out to their staff while being away, or for parents who want to reach the entire family all at once.

Voice Broadcast will work by selecting a group of recipients from the iPhone’s Address Book, then entering the delivery date and time. The Voice Broadcast application lets you record a message, which is then sent at the appointed time. Because the message is being sent as data, it doesn’t impact the number of minutes you’ve selected in your calling plan.

The application will be free to download, though Ifbyphone requires an active subscription in order to use.

Ifbyphone is a hosted voice application and platform company with a simplified approach to the deployment of stand-alone and web-integrated voice services for small and medium sized businesses (SMB).

Ifbyphone makes it easier for customers to connect with you from online and off. All of Ifbyphone's applications are accessible via a click on a Web site, an inbound call to a toll free number, an outbound call or with the help of a programmable API.

Apple has revealed that over 200,000 iPhone developers have downloaded Software Development Kit (SDk) so far. Apple also announced that in mid-March, the iPhone SDK had been downloaded 100,000 times. According to Apple CFO Oppenheimer Apple is signing up more developers each week.

Oppenheimer called the response to the SDK "tremendous" and said that interest in developing enterprise applications for the iPhone is also going well. More than 400 higher educations are now creating applications for the iPhone, and more than one-third of Fortune 500 companies are actively creating software for the iPhone as well.

Apple plans to deliver a free update to the software that runs the iPhone -called iPhone 2.0 in late June. That update will introduce the App Store, a new feature that will enable iPhone users to purchase, download and install third-party application software for the device. Apple also plans to release a similar update to the iPod touch delivered for a nominal fee that will enable iPod touch users to access the App Store as well.

Apple has sold 1.7 million iPhones in the quarter and is now selling phones in Austria and Ireland. Apple's COO, Tim Cook, reiterated to analysts who questioned him after Oppenheimer's preamble that Apple is on track to sell 10 million iPhones by the end of the year.

A Chinese developer has released HWPen - a handwriting recognition app for the jailbroken iPhone. HWPen works in both Chinese and Latin alphabets.

The screen cap above shows the ‘writing area’ for HWPen. You need to enter letters within the left half of the work area, and numbers on the right. Because it integrates with the native text input of the iPhone, HWPen is available anywhere you would normally use the keyboard. It even works with the iPhone's auto-complete function, so you can start to type a word and hit the spacebar to pick spelling suggestions.

The software application can be downloaded from Installer.app. Then one can go to “Sources,” click on “Edit” and “Add” a new source: http://iphonecake.com/src/new

Refresh the sources to locate HWPen in the iPhoneCake packages. Install the software and restart your iPhone. After you install you will see a writing area making the standard keyboard vanish. The application is currently in beta and is also available for the Palm OS platform.

Mozilla invited a handful of technology bloggers to come down to its office for a roundtable discussion. After long discussions about different things connected with Mozilla Firefox it became clear that no firefox would be available for iPhone.

Mozilla CEO John Lilly and VP of engineering Mike Schroepfer said that Apple’s software requirements for the device are too restrictive, and as such, they will not be making Firefox for iPhone, at least in the near future.

According to
John Lilly - "Apple has not written a license which allows Firefox to run on the iPhone."

"Android and iPhone are closed platforms. There are carriers and device manufacturers who are more open with their platform, and we'll do well there - the Nokia N810 internet tablet, for example. People can just take the (Firefox) code and run with it, so there's a lot happening that we don't even see until it shows up... XUL (the language in which Firefox's user interface is written) makes it easy to experiment on mobile devices. That's our main advantage on mobile platforms." - added Mike Schroepfer.

P.S It should be noted that 10th anniversary of Mozilla will be celebrated on Monday.

Well, laziness is one of the seven deadly sins and it results not only spiritual but financial crisis. IDC claims that lazy buying habits are costing businesses millions in hidden consultancy and supports costs.

That sounds quite logical but it is always better to support the statements by facts and in this case evidence to this statement is the research conducted by the IDC. On the bases of an Agresso-sponsored survey "Mid-Market Service Companies' Enterprise Investment Strategies and Adoption Trends", Albert Pang, director of enterprise applications research at IDC discovers that companies today are overspending on ERP software.

According to IDC “Companies need to acknowledge the hidden costs of their ERP software following initial implementations,” said Pang. “Many users need to ask whether they should continue to stick to their current ERP system providers. If they don't, it seems to suggest that they are not willing to consider the options of using new, perhaps lesser known vendors. There is either a sense of complacency or one of hopelessness that costs can never be reined in.”When the cost exceeds for 100 percent the planned budget, one always think over the probable problems, risk management. And people who do think so is about 47%.

Despite 100% growth of costs eighty-three percent of ERP customers stay in the same position and buy from the same vendor. Problem might be only solved by analyzing , says Pang.
“Enterprise software vendors have to wake up and stop taking customers for granted,” said John Crooks, UK MD of Agresso. “Escalating support costs are killing businesses and this is down to a lack of forward thinking by vendors. Change is part and parcel of modern business and enterprise software has to acknowledge this by being agile enough to not demand expensive consultants every time the business grows. Unfortunately with most ERP vendors this is not the case although we have worked hard to ensure our software is agile enough to not incur huge costs after implementation.”The survey is as much reliable as IDC spanned more than 250 companies in the U.S. and U.K.

Corporate Telecommunications presents the service that gives the users opportunity to diagnose their headsets: who is using which headset, which ones need repairing, which are out of warranty, which ones need new voice tubes or need upgrading. These are achieved by unique identity codes and specially-designed software that monitor the lifecycle of each headset.

Access to information does not require separate software. It is automatically stored on a secure web-based database. All changes are updated directly onto the system.

Chan Bansal, business development manager at Corporate Telecommunications said: "Trying to keep track of headsets using an Excel spreadsheet or databases might work in the short term, but manually inputting information on scores of headsets is a time consuming task. And if the administrator is on holiday, sick or leaves the company, it doesn't take long for the spreadsheet to become out of date. Not to mention the security risks of losing potentially sensitive information."

A comprehensive audit trail for each headset, with multiple reporting options is provided by Accucheck software. A history of each change in use or status is created for both headsets and agents.

Bansal announces that "Developments in business culture, such as health and safety laws, regulatory changes and tight cost controls, mean sketchy asset records are not acceptable. Not managing your assets effectively, wastes time, costs money and risks falling foul of regulations."

According to PC WORLD the spam message tricking the users interested in Hillary Clinton’s campaign speech appeared on Thursday. Doug Bowers, Symantec’s senior director of anti-abuse engineering, says that “It is the first time we have seen the spam like this targeting Hillary Clinton.”

The victims of the trick download a Trojan to their desktops thinking they are provided with the speech, the purpose of that is sending more and more spams.

According to Symantec the only other candidate being abused for malware purposes in this way is Ron Pau. Neither Barack Obama nor John McCain have had names exploited by Malware.

NETWORKWORLD estimates it as software designed to damage or infiltrate an operating system without the owner’s authorization. These might be computer viruses, adware, Trojan horses.
