The Web 2.0 service that ‘voice enables’ text-based Web content launched Talklets. The new service gives opportunities to the users to have text ‘read’ to them immediately in a range of natural voices, or converted to an MP3 file for consumption at another time, and on any compatible device.

The main advantage of the Talklets is that there is no need to download it. It is the software as a service (SaaS) model for TTS. All is needed is to insert a few lines of code into the web pages they wish to voice enable to create the necessary links to Textic’s server platform, later on the selected text is converted into a streaming audio file. User can hear the text read to them by one of a number of predefined voices which closely approximate natural speech. There is no obligation to listen to everything but user can opt to have the selected text converted to an MP3 file which is then downloaded and saved for later use or transferred to, for example, an iPod or mobile phone.

CEO Paul Ayres, launcher of Netscape and RealNetworks in the European market. Commented, “The obvious use of the Talklets service is to satisfy increasingly stringent accessibility requirements which are mandated in legislation around the world. However, stopping there ignores the significant revenue generating opportunities available. Something like 80% of the data consumed on the Web is text and it’s only available now if you’re in front of a readable screen or if it’s printed. Talklets is designed to extract that text and deliver it in a form that meets the increasing demand for anytime, anywhere, any device access to information.

“Website owners need to start thinking how they can use Talklets to extract maximum value from the text based assets they have invested in. The combination of the software as a service model and natural speech means that services can be delivered effortlessly and be completely brand specific. There’s no reason why we couldn’t have Murray Walker voicing motor racing sites, David Frost reading news portals or Kate Moss reading fashion tips. The initial indications we have from our trials suggest that making text more flexible and accessible offers considerable long term benefits by attracting new audiences, increasing engagement and extending user ‘stickiness’.”

Voices of the new service varies from male and female voices in major languages including English (UK & US), French, Dutch, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Polish, Greek and Welsh.

Are you taking part in social networks? Do you write blogs? Or just send mails? Are you interested how much does your work cost? To get answers to these questions and know the value of your work, one should calculate it. But how?

Egalitarian social networking site Weblo, which is designed on the principle that those who take part should also profit, champions the cause of the individuals in ensuring that income is distributed fairly in the world of internet, has two new features to prove that it’s on the side of the consumer-generators providing two services:

Calculate Your InterNET Worth that uses a formula to put a monetary value on digital assets.

Weblo’s Ad Network matches potential advertisers, who specific demographic, geographic and content requirements, with suitable individuals, who have advertising space allocated on.

As the founder and CEO of Weblo said: “There has been much debate about whether it’s right that the owners of what are typically web 2.0 companies, should profit from what is essentially other people’s work. Of course, these sites and services provide a vehicle for people to come together and interact but most of the useful content, i.e. the hard work, is done by the individuals contributing. We think it’s only right that some advertising revenue goes back to those who make it worthwhile for the advertiser to be there in the first place.”

The Costs for advertisers can be as low as £2.50.This year alone user-generated content will generate advertising revenues of nearly £2.5 billion and this is predicted to top £2.1 billion by 2011.

The giant in a searching system, Google, enhances position in social network . Google, as one of the innovators and strong competitors on world wide market, launches OpenSocial, a new open API for social network system. It consists of three parts: people, storage, and activity stream. The purpose of it is to allow developers to create applications for different social networks.

The main comport Google’s OpenSocial provides, as the name "OpenSocial" says already, in difference to Facebook, is that the developers have opportunities to write apps in HTML or javascript rather than in some new programming language. At the same time, the apps are meant to be portable and the system is designed for maximum flexibility.

Open nature of the system makes us come to the conclusion that OpenSocial System will not be a new network in a number of networks (Orkut, LinkedIn, Plaxo) but It is expected to be a new paradigm for the social web.

Is Intel becoming a hybrid of a hardware and software company? I don't know, but one thing is clear that Intel is actively moving towards web 2.0 and software market.

Recently, the company has launched CoolSW, a web 2.0 site where members members can post information about an interesting new software company and, more important, the community votes on whether they think a software company is, well, "cool."

While nothing revolutionary is in CoolSW, the fact that Intel has started this type of community is remarkable. The same social voting mechanism applies to CoolSW that we've seen in many different web 2.0 sites. In other words, companies that receive a lot of votes are moved to the site's front page and thus get even more exposure.

As of writing this post there are 535 software submissions and 126 conversations on CoolSW. Join CoolSW to post your favorite software or support already posted.

Mark Zuckerberg, born on May 14, 1984, a student of Harvard University didn’t expect his small website (founded in 2004) would be cost billions one day. The social networking website FaceBook , primarily created for interaction among the Harvard students, has today extended its membership to 40 million.

Last year Yahoo was offering the student 1 billion for his website, however Mark sharply refused. The experts at that time forecasted Zuckerberg would regret the rare chance, especially as the rival site MySpace was purchased by Rupert Murdoch (News Corporation company) by only 580 Million $.

However, the student was much wiser than most of the experts had expected. The fact is, according to the American economic journal (Wall Street Journal) Microsoft has expressed its desire to buy 5% of FaceBook for $300-500 million which means the website cost between $7–10 Billion.

The similarity between Mark Zuckerberg and Bill Gates is very clear:
- Both began working on programming.
- Both earned first millions in their twenties .
- Both had a vision which yielded them success and resulted in great changes in the information market, benefiting both the owners of the ideas, and milllions of consumers around the world.
- Both studied in Harvard , between Gates didn’t continue his education as he was busy in programming .
- Finally, an economical relation is established between these two persons as we refered above.

Last and not least, if Zuckerberg wants to be the second Gates , it means he has a hard work , especially that Gates is considered the richest person in the universe according to FORBES

It looks like businesses have finally started embracing web 2.0 principles. At least, Cisco Systems is actively moving into this direction. On Thursday, Cisco announced that the company plans to acquire Latigent, a Chicago-based business intelligence and analytic reporting tools provider.

Latigent was co-founded in 2002 by CEO Chris Crosby and CTO Jason Kolb, who will both join Cisco after the close of the acquisition. The acquisition is expected to close in the first quarter of Cisco's 2008 fiscal year.

With this move, Cisco will be making a push into Web 2.0. Web 2.0 applications have already proven that when it comes to collaboration, the principles underlying web 2.0 are effective.

Recently a new European Web 2.0 social networking site called MyPacis.eu has been launched.

MyPacis.eu uses Web 2.0 tools which are very attractive for younger generations, but still accessible to more mature ones. Overall, the website offers many web 2.0 tools (blogs, photo galleries, member profiles, videos, real-time news, etc) found on other social networking web sites. However, compared to existing social networks in Europe, MyPacis.eu has been designed to be easily localized in every European language, instead of focusing on one or two national markets.

Web 2.0 sites have introduced many new concepts like tags and tag clouds, user generated content, ranking systems and so on. However, a fundamental entity Hyperlink is unchanged. Nothing strange is here. The whole idea of web is built around hyperlinks.

Zeptile.com is introducing a totally new concept in navigation. Imagine a mosaic of images. Yes, millions of tiny images making a big big social network. Consequently, each tile is a user. And like every spot on the earth, each tile on Zeptile.com has its coordinates. So now, you can tell your friends that your are at the Zeptile located at say 510.511 (hey, that's my Zeptile indeed), or you can say: "Go to the right hand of the girl throwing the flowers in the mosaic, then zoom in. You'll see me there."

"Our goal is not to attempt to replace other social networking Web sites by
providing all the same services that they provide" Don Lee, developer of
Zeptile.com.

It must be noted that Zeptile.com is a good compliment to existing social networking sites.

Love can be expressed in a million of ways and there can be a million of love messages. Love is a strange thing. Reading love letters is an extremely pleasurable business, at least to me. If I could, I would read all love messages written in the world with a great pleasure. But who in the world can collect all love messages? A daunting task. However a romantic and cool guy from Portugal, Mauro, has seriously decided to show that this endeavor can enter a range of possibility. Welcome to 1MillionLoveMessages.com.

1MillionLoveMessages.com is a blog where you can read love messages posted from people all over the world. People send love messages to Mauro, who then publishes them on 1MillionLoveMessages.com. That's it, simple and sweet.

If you are a romantic boy or girl you can send your love message and have it published on the blog. However, if you have firmly decided to keep your innermost feelings in yourself, you can read what love can make to people. Yesterday I read an extremely interesting and I would say a slightly ridiculous article by John C. Dvorak at the PC Magazine.com. If Mr. Dvorak's purpose was to arouse a discussion than he has certainly succeeed.

The above mentioned article was titled exactly as this post that you are reading now but without a question mark. I do not think neither Mr. Dvorak, nor anyone else can be fully certain about the bubble 2.0 coming and coming soon.

The very beginning of the article is ridiculous and not in the range of possibility. We can read:

"Every single person working in the media today who experienced the dot-com bubble in 1999 to 2000 believes that we are going through the exact same process and can expect the exact same results—a bust. It's déjà vu all over again".

First, how Mr. Dvorak knows what does every single person in the media believe? Did he made a survey of all media professionals? If it is deja vu for him, it does not mean that it is deja vu for me.

Yes, true. There are some similarities but this is a natural phenomenon.

The mobile giant has acquired a Redmond-based social networking startup Twango. The financial side of the transaction were not disclosed but according to rumours the deal hit a 70 million Euro mark.

Nokia continues its strategic acquisitions in the media sharing business. Prior to Twango, Nokia has acquired Loudeye (acquired by Nokia in August 2006) and kyte.tv (acquired in June of this year).

These acquisitions are part of a big reorganization going on at Nokia. According to the company officials, they will provide details about Nokia's future plans for Twango's service in the first half of 2008.

Nokia's phones are one of the best on the market. Most of the high-end models are equipped with hi resolution cameras and more models are equipped with GPS navigation. In 2006, Nokia sold over 140 million connected cameras, and its devices are rapidly becoming the world’s primary source of images and videos. So, taking into consideration these facts, it is clear how perfectly Twango fits in Nokia's business strategy.

Web 2.0 is almost instantly associated with user-generated content. While Web 2.0 encompasses more than that, user-generated content is the first sign of a Web 2.0 site.

Even among the Web 2.0 sites some are more popular, some are less. Personally, I believe that one of the most successful directions is video sharing and streaming, with YouTube being a vivid example.

However, YouTube is a universal video sharing service. Almost all general markets are already taken by big players who have enjoyed the first mover advantage. But niche markets are still open and I believe that is where we will see the future Web 2.0 sites appearing in.

What will you get if you take baseball and add Web 2.0 to it? Yes, you'll get Actober.com. It was designed to promote the MLB 2007 postseason. The Actober.com site lets fans put together videos containing their favorite baseball moments. Fans can take the clips both from the site's archive and from personal clips. Users with the best videos can win tickets to the 2007 World Series.

Sometimes I think that people went crazy about this web 2.0 thing. Versioning the web is a dumb idea. Frankly, I run my own web 2.0 site, but still think that web 2.0 is just a marketing gimmick. Of course it is a fact that the Web is in its second phase of existence but this is not the same as version 2.0. Web does not have versions simply because it can't.

One way or another, web 2.0 sites make a new universe and navigating around this universe can be a little tough. But believe or not there is a map of Web 2.0 created by Tokyo design firm. When I saw the map, my reaction was, cool, double cool.

It turns out that those guys have created this map previously. The new map features much more websites than the previous one. Despite the focus being on English language sites some Japanese, German and Chinese sites are present as well.

The map comes in different resolutions. You can even place it as your desktop background.
